Annual Conservation Awards Dinner

The culmination of our spring events fell on a beautiful, cool April evening on the grounds of historic Locust Grove in Louisville, where we toasted and celebrated Lendy Brown and Kurt Mason, recipients of this year’s awards. Decked out in almostDerby-attire, guests mingled with the award recipients, sipped on cocktails in julep cups, enjoyed delicious local food by Farm-To-Fork, and tapped toes to the tunes of The Possum Queens.

BLC Board Chair, Margaret Graves enthusiastically introduced Lendy Brown, who donned a coon-skin cap and quoted Daniel Boone as she received the KY Land Conservationist and Lifetime Achievement Award. A dedicated conservationist, Lendy’s leadership and dynamic personality ushered a new era at BLC – with new easements in Bourbon county and a more successful Auction!

To a standing ovation of family, colleagues, and farmers, Kurt Mason took the stage as Nina Bonnie introduced him for the Mary Louise Allen Memorial Award for his consistent, courageous, and compassionate leadership for individuals and nonprofits alike. His knowledge has guided owners to protect their land, water and soil.
